Albert E. “Bo” Rivera,
D.O., F.A.O.C.D.

Dr. Albert E. “Bo” Rivera is a licensed physician and surgeon in Alabama, board-certified diplomat of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, a fellowship-trained member of the American College of Mohs Surgeons as well as member of several dermatology and medical specialty organizations.
 
He was born and grew up in nearby Haleyville, Alabama, graduating from Haleyville High School.  Afterward, he completed his undergraduate education at Auburn University, earning a degree in Premedicine and Zoology while also a letter-winning member of its' nationally ranked track and field teams.  Following his hometown friend and primary care doctor's footsteps, he completed his medical training at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri.  His internship in General Surgery was done at the  University of Kentucky, in Lexington, Kentucky, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute in Saint Petersburg, Florida.  At Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri, he completed both a Dermatology residency as well as a Dermatology research and laser fellowship under the direction of Lloyd J. Cleaver, DO.  The final honor in his training was completing a Mohs Micrographic Surgery subspecialty fellowship under the direction of Roger I Ceilley, MD and Andrew K. Bean, MD in West Des Moines, Iowa.  Over the years he has had the opportunity to publish several articles in national and international medical journals as well as authoring a medical textbook chapter.  He has also given presentations at local, national and international venues to both non-medical and medical professionals throughout his medical career.
 
Dr. Rivera enjoys multiple aspects within Dermatology but has specific interest and extensive training in the prevention and treatment of skin cancers.  Personally, he enjoys traveling, educating others, general fitness as well as participating in and viewing multiple sports.  Numerous friends call the Madison and Huntsville area home and he hopes to contribute to and better all of the local communities.  Locally, he is involved with the Huntsville Committee of 100 (Young Professionals) and is a board member of the Huntsville-Madison County Auburn Club. It will be a pleasure to meet all of the exceptional people of North Alabama and South Tennessee as we build our practice to better serve your needs!


 
Lindsay Hayler, Dermatology PA-C, MPH, MPAS
Lindsay Hayler, PA-C, MPH, MPAS is a certified and licensed physician assistant from the beautiful beach town of Wilmington, N.C. After graduating from Wake Forest University with a degree in English, she moved to Houston, Texas as a 2001 Teach for America Corps member. There she taught middle school English as a Second Language to beginning English speakers from all over the world. Upon completing her Americorps commitment, she entered graduate school at the University of Texas School of Public Health while also working as a graduate research assistant in Behavioral Science at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She completed Physician Assistant school in 2008 at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and has practiced as a dermatology physician assistant since then. Lindsay recently became a Diplomate with the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, the highest honor available to an experienced dermatology PA, after completing their Distance Learning Initiative. Dermatology is her passion and she cannot imagine practicing any other type of medicine. Having suffered from severe acne since her teenage years, she has an affinity for treating acne patients and an understanding for the distress acne can cause. Lindsay enjoys salsa dancing, reading, traveling (India and Puerto Rico are her two favorite places so far!), playing the flute, and hot yoga. She has recently moved to Alabama and is enjoying her return to the deep South. Lindsay looks forward to serving you with a smile!

Stephanie Rivera, Dermatology PA-C, MMS
Stephanie Rivera is a Board certified Physician Assistant with a range of Dermatology experience. Stephanie is originally from Orlando, Florida and joined our team at Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology in January 2014. Stephanie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology in 2006 from The University of Central Florida. After graduating, she was employed as a Medical/Surgical Assistant and a Mohs Micrographic Surgery Histology Technician for a Dermatology practice in Orlando for one year. Inspired by this experience, she furthered her education at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She graduated from there with honors to earn her Masters of Medical Sciences degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2010. She has enjoyed practicing Dermatology since graduation and brings a wealth of knowledge in general and cosmetic dermatology to our practice.  Stephanie is experienced in all aspects of dermatology, providing a variety of treatments for the skin, hair and nails. Her special interests include cosmetic dermatology and the prevention, detection and treatment of skin cancer and accelerated photoaging. Surgery is among her passions and she enjoys assisting Dr. Albert “Bo” Rivera with Mohs surgical cases and closures, as well as performing minor excisions.  A native Floridian, Stephanie enjoys almost any activity outdoors, volunteering, spending time with her family and her Labradoodle. She welcomes you to the practice and will make your visit as pleasurable as possible!


 
Bruce Burruss, BS
Practice Administrator

Bruce Burruss is a proud United States Air Force veteran who brought over 17 years of healthcare management experience to the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology team in May 2014.  Bruce came to Madison, Alabama from Tampa, Florida.  After graduating from the University of the State of New York with a degree in Business, he worked in an upper management capacity for various large hospitals and medical practices.  He has also served in operations management for clinical laboratory and durable medical equipment companies.  Bruce is very committed to excellent patient care and satisfaction.  When not working you can find Bruce on the water or riding motorcycles.  He has an open door policy and welcomes feedback on your patient care experience.

The staff at Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology works together to provide care that is focused on you, our guest.  Each individual who visits is greeted with warmth and kindness.  While you are with us, expect to be treated in a courteous manner as a unique person with specific concerns and needs.  We expect that your entire visit should be based on respect: from your scheduling, to your minimal time in our reception area, to the education provided regarding your specific condition.  Our team is built from individuals who represent the values we hope to convey through your care. 


Amanda
Amanda is one of our experienced receptionists that joined us in 2012.  You will be greeted with her great smile as you enter the practice or enjoy her wonderful personality over the phone.  She enjoyed serving the community in a similar capacity for more than 10 years prior to joining us and we are so pleased to have her as a part of our practice team!  Amanda was born in Athens, Alabama but grew up in multiple locations - living in Hawaii, South Alabama, Germany, and Virginia - before returning to her roots in Athens.  Amanda enjoys spending time with her family, reading, music, and dance fitness.  She loves watching football and baseball and is excited to be a part of your healthcare team!  



Sandra Brown
Sandra became a valuable member of the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatolgy family in the summer of 2014.  She is a native of Madison, Alabama so is familiar with many of the local faces.  Her Associates of Applied Science degree in nursing was obtained from Calhoun Community College allowing her to become a Registered Nurse.  Immediately prior to joining our team, Sandra was part of the Cardiology department at Huntsville Hosptial.  Before she began her nursing career she was in retail cosmetic and skincare sales for more than three years.  In her free time, she enjoys doing arts and crafts projects, Alabama football, doing makeup applications, and making special memories with her family, especially her baby girl.  Sandra looks forward to helping make your visit to the Dermatologist an enjoyable, personable experience that you will remember!

Nick Lindsay
Nicholas “Nick” Lindsay joined our team as a Medical Assistant in 2013. Nick’s medical education was obtained in the US Navy, completing their Naval Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon completion of this training he performed duties as a Navy Corpsman for three years. After his military service was complete Nick continued to work in the healthcare industry. He was an active medical assistant for 9 years prior to joining our team. His experience also includes a position with American Family Care as Laboratory Manager for nearly two years. Nick is a very engaging and fun person who treats all our patients as family. Nick is an avid football fan and when the season comes around he pulls for the San Diego Chargers of the NFL and the Alabama Crimson Tide as his college team. When not at work you can find Nick playing dad and husband to his family and numerous animals. If they don’t keep him busy his electronic gadgets do!

Teri-Beth was welcomed to the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology team in the summer of 2014.








Tiffany Parcus
We welcome Tiffany Parcus to Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology as one of our Medical Assistants. She joined our practice in 2014 after having worked as a Medical Assistant at the Clearview Cancer Institute in Huntsville for more than two years. Prior to that she also performed duties as a phlebotomist at Decatur General Hospital for two years, as well as having worked as a pharmacy technician for a year prior to that. Tiffany is an extremely outgoing and friendly native of Decatur, Alabama who loves working with people and in the healthcare profession. In her free time away from work she enjoys shopping or spending time outdoors. Tiffany, in her own words, was “raised with manners” as her grandfather helped her to become “a responsible adult” and who she is today. She looks forward to meeting you with a smile at your next visit and helping to make it as enjoyable as possible!


Okera Peoples
Okera Peoples is another one of our superb receptionists within the practice, joining us in 2012.  She moved to Alabama from Detroit, Michigan and is currently continuing her educational pursuits at Athens State University seeking a degree in Human Resource Management.  She loves the interaction with patients during their visit and enjoys watching the progress they make.  Okera is a proud mother of three beautiful daughters - Taylour, Kameryn, and Peyton.  She and her husband, Demetrius, are enthusiastic Alabama football fans.  In her spare time, she visits her family in Michigan, shops, volunteers at her church, and enjoys staying in shape.  Her favorite things about working at Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology are being part of a staff that has passion for their profession, as well as getting to know our wonderful patients.


Cynthia Phillips
Cynthia “Cindy” Phillips joined the Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology team in February of 2014. She was raised in Woodstock, Georgia and moved to Alabama in 2014. Cindy graduated from Chattahoochee Technical College as a Certified Medical Assistant and performed in that capacity for over 9 years prior to joining us. During that period, Cindy gained more than 3 years of experience specifically in the dermatology field. In addition, she is also a Certified Pharmacy Technician and worked previously in that role as well. Cindy has thoroughly enjoyed helping and caring for others throughout her career and has brought that excitement to our office as well. When not at work you will find her mountain biking, working on arts and crafts, or doing some volunteer work in the community.



Brookelyn Van Hoozer
We welcomed Brookelyn to Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology in 2014 as one of our friendly receptionists.  Prior to joining our courteous team, she worked at CVS for over four years as both a supervisor and as a certified pharmacy technician.  She brings these talents and experiences to her new position, broadening our team's expertise.  In her spare time Brookelyn enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and their two dogs, Bella and Olliver.  She looks forward to either speaking with you on the phone as you call for an appointment or have any questions or brightening your day as she greets you personally in our office!
