Albert E. “Bo” Rivera,
Dr. Albert E. “Bo” Rivera is a licensed physician and surgeon in Alabama, board-certified diplomat of the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, a fellowship-trained member of the American College of Mohs Surgeons as well as member of several dermatology and medical specialty organizations.
He was born and grew up in nearby Haleyville, Alabama, graduating from Haleyville High School. Afterward, he completed his undergraduate education at Auburn University, earning a degree in Premedicine and Zoology while also a letter-winning member of its' nationally ranked track and field teams. Following his hometown friend and primary care doctor's footsteps, he completed his medical training at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri. His internship in General Surgery was done at the University of Kentucky, in Lexington, Kentucky, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute in Saint Petersburg, Florida. At Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri, he completed both a Dermatology residency as well as a Dermatology research and laser fellowship under the direction of Lloyd J. Cleaver, DO. The final honor in his training was completing a Mohs Micrographic Surgery subspecialty fellowship under the direction of Roger I Ceilley, MD and Andrew K. Bean, MD in West Des Moines, Iowa. Over the years he has had the opportunity to publish several articles in national and international medical journals as well as authoring a medical textbook chapter. He has also given presentations at local, national and international venues to both non-medical and medical professionals throughout his medical career.
Dr. Rivera enjoys multiple aspects within Dermatology but has specific interest and extensive training in the prevention and treatment of skin cancers.
Personally, he enjoys traveling, educating others, general fitness as well as participating in and viewing multiple sports. Numerous friends call the Madison and Huntsville area home and he hopes to contribute to and better all of the local communities. Already, he has been selected to the Huntsville Committee of 100 (Young Professionals). It will be a pleasure to meet all of the exceptional people of North Alabama and South Tennessee as we build our practice to better serve your needs!
Lindsay Hayler, PA-C, MPH, MPAS
Lindsay Hayler, PA-C, MPH, MPAS is a certified and licensed physician assistant from the beautiful beach town of Wilmington, N.C. After graduating from Wake Forest University with a degree in English, she moved to Houston, Texas as a 2001 Teach for America Corps member. There she taught middle school English as a Second Language to beginning English speakers from all over the world. Upon completing her Americorps commitment, she entered graduate school at the University of Texas School of Public Health while also working as a graduate research assistant in Behavioral Science at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She completed Physician Assistant school in 2008 at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and has practiced as a dermatology physician assistant since then. Lindsay recently became a Diplomate with the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, the highest honor available to an experienced dermatology PA, after completing their Distance Learning Initiative. Dermatology is her passion and she cannot imagine practicing any other type of medicine. Having suffered from severe acne since her teenage years, she has an affinity for treating acne patients and an understanding for the distress acne can cause. Lindsay enjoys salsa dancing, reading, traveling (India and Puerto Rico are her two favorite places so far!), playing the flute, and hot yoga. She has recently moved to Alabama and is enjoying her return to the deep South. Lindsay looks forward to serving you with a smile!
Patrick Stark is the Practice Administrator for Southeastern Skin Cancer and Dermatology in Madison, AL. Patrick brings a wealth of experience to the practice having served in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years. A highly decorated veteran, he is the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, as well as the Air Force Commendation Medal with Valor. Patrick spent 17 of his 20-year career in healthcare management as a leader and manager in hospitals and clinics all over the world. He was a Distinguished Graduate of both the Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy and Noncommissioned Officer Leadership School.
Since his retirement from the service Patrick has been the manager and administrator in a variety of medical practices from physical therapy to family practice, most recently moving to Alabama after a seven-year position directing a multi-specialty orthopaedic group in New Hampshire. Patrick holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management along with Associate in Applied Science degrees in Healthcare Management and as an Instructor of Technology and Military Science. He is married to his wife Karen and they have three children and a little Yorkie. Patrick’s hobbies include playing golf, fishing, and most all sporting events. Patrick welcomes you to the office and invites you to say “hi” at any one of your visits as his door is always open.
Office and Clinical Staff
The staff at Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology works together to provide care that is focused on you, our guest. Each individual who visits is greeted with warmth and kindness. While you are with us, expect to be treated in a courteous manner as a unique person with specific concerns and needs. We expect that your entire visit should be based on respect: from your scheduling, to your minimal time in our reception area, to the education provided regarding your specific condition. Our team is built from individuals who represent the values we hope to convey through your care.
Amanda is one of our experienced receptionists. You will be greeted with her great smile as you enter the practice or enjoy her wonderful personality over the phone. She has enjoyed serving the community in this capacity for more than 10 years and we are so pleased to have her as a part of our practice team! Amanda was born in Athens, Alabama but grew up in multiple locations - living in Hawaii, South Alabama, Germany, and Virginia - before returning to her roots in Athens. Amanda enjoys spending time with her family, reading, music, and dance fitness. She loves watching football and baseball and is excited to be a part of your healthcare team!
Heather Knight is a joining our practice as another excellent Medical Assistant. Prior to moving to Madison, Heather was living in Wisconsin. She graduated with honors from the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Superior, Wisconsin with an Associate of Applied Science degree as a Medical Administrative Specialist and also with her diploma from their Medical Assisting program. She brings three years of experience to our team, working most recently in Pediatrics. Heather is extremely down-to-earth and friendly. Being from the north, Heather loves to go to hockey games. Also, she enjoys baseball games and is a fan of the Minnesota Vikings football team. When not at work you can find Heather riding her bike, taking in a movie, shopping, or reading. She loves being outside!
Elena Nava joined our clinical team in June 2013 and brings over a year and a half of experience working in Dermatology in the Daphne, Alabama area. She is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. degree in pre-med / biology. One of her long term goals is to continue her career in medicine as a physician assistant. She is extremely well-rounded as is evidenced by her hobbies, which include: hiking, camping, bouldering, reading, Pinterest, interior decorating, and arts/crafts. Some of Elena’s other interests are nature, fresh water biology, small houses, tree-houses, mountains and traveling. In addition, she is also a dog-lover!
Okera Peoples is another one of our superb receptionists within the practice. She moved to Alabama from Detroit, Michigan and is currently continuing her educational pursuits at Athens State University seeking a degree in Human Resource Management. She loves the interaction with patients during their visit and enjoys watching the progress they make. Okera is a proud mother of three beautiful daughters - Taylour, Kameryn, and Peyton. She and her husband, Demetrius, are enthusiastic Alabama football fans. In her spare time, she visits her family in Michigan, shops, volunteers at her church, and enjoys staying in shape. Her favorite things about working at Southeastern Skin Cancer & Dermatology are being part of a staff that has passion for their profession, as well as getting to know our wonderful patients.
Kae Torres, RMA, has been a medical assistant for 15 years with more than 7 years of experience working in the general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology fields. She has worked in both dermatologic clinical research and private offices. Recently, Kae moved to Northeast Alabama and is excited to call it home now. She enjoys salsa dancing, movies, and being a great mom to her two sons. Kae is a fan of anything that involves leopard print, purple, or Taz. Since she is fluent Spanish, she is the medical interpreter for our practice as well as in the community. Kae looks forward to meeting you and assisting in your care!
